RESTORATION FUND
Did you know that our beautiful ancient church was mentioned in William the Conqueror's Domesday Book? After the Norman Invasion and conquest of England in 1066, King William 1 (the Conqueror) wanted to find out about the land and its people in his new Kingdom and so commissioned a survey in 1086, which resulted in the Domesday Book.
Just imagine as you stand in St. Peter and St. Paul, walk around its beautiful grounds, or drive past it, that it has been standing in Nutfield for nearly a thousand years!
Just like us, a church needs constant TLC to keep it in good order and health. Neglect it and niggles start to show. We want to ensure this beautiful old church remains standing for another thousand years or more for our children and their children’s children to enjoy!
In order to enable this, we have building a Restoration Fund over some years. Currently the fund has about £52,000.
We are about to embark on an ambitious project to enhance this beautiful church with a new lighting scheme, redecoration, redesign of the inner entrance/vestibule, structural work to the tower, and improved drainage.
The project will cost circa £800,000. It is a huge amount to raise. We feel confident that we can raise money from Heritage Lottery and interested Trusts.
